Aaron Matthew Thompson, age 56, of Bel Air, Maryland, passed away on June 1, 2024, at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. Born in Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Philip and Margrid (Juengel) Thompson and the beloved husband of Katherine (Kole) Thompson. In addition to his wife, Aaron is survived by his daughters, Sydney (David) Katherine Brett and Lydia Erin Thompson.
Aaron was a phenomenal Math and Art Teacher at Havre de Grace High School for 32 years, profoundly impacting the lives of many students. His dedication extended beyond the classroom through private tutoring and a willingness to go above and beyond for his students. For over a decade, Aaron also served as the coach for both the girls’ and boys’ swim teams at Havre de Grace High School, achieving remarkable success, including winning the State Championship for the 2002-2003 Boys’ Team.
He met his wife, Katie, while both were members of the Boston College Swim Team, and their shared love for swimming continued throughout their life together. Aaron was an avid athlete, participating in multiple marathons, enjoying skiing, and paddle boarding. His enthusiasm for home improvement projects began at a young age and remained a lifelong passion.
Known for his goofy nature and unyielding willingness to embrace embarrassment, Aaron had a unique ability to spread joy and laughter. He was an amazing father to his daughters, fully engaged in their lives and activities. An avid Baltimore Orioles fan, he frequently attended games with his family, enjoying the camaraderie and excitement of the sport.
Aaron was a creator at heart, constantly involved in artistic and practical endeavors, whether it was sculpture, painting, carpentry, or designing various projects. His creativity and enthusiasm were boundless, and he always sought to be part of everything.
Aaron is survived by his wife, his daughters, and many friends and former students who cherished his guidance and friendship. In addition, Aaron is survived by one granddaughter on the way; sister, Dr. Jenny (Dan Cumpelik) Thompson; brothers, Kris (Laura Wilson) Thompson, Erik Thompson; nephews, Benji Cumpelik, Ryder Cumpelik; niece Kayla Cumpelik, parents-in-law, Bernie and Judy Kole; step-mother, Jan Thompson; step-brother, Tim Parthree; step-sister, Dina (Jim Bonito) Parthree; sister-in-law, Julie (Steve Baughman) Kole; beloved dog, Beaufort.
