Lynn Marie Melfa

Lynn Marie Barlow-Melfa, age 62, of Rising Sun, MD passed away unexpectedly on April 19, 2018 after a brief illness. She was the daughter of Ann (Miller) Cook and the late Clyde Barlow. Lynn is survived by her loving husband, Stephen Melfa, as well as her mother and extended family. Upon marrying Stephen, she became a mother to Rebecca and grandmother to her sons, Zoey and Forrest. She will be profoundly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

For over 30 years, Lynn and Stephen have been together, facing the joys and challenges of life with their steadfast love, a healthy dose of humor, rock and roll music and her nightly glass of sherry. Stephen introduced Lynn to her favorite song… Fleetwood Mac’s “Spare Me a Little of your love” but her family and friends know that Lynn loved with abundance.

Lynn was an avid equestrian and trail rider. She delighted in taking her horses to new places, both locally and even Big Sky country, camping under the stars when possible. Her love of horses compelled her to rescue several, turning them into “Pampered Pasture Pets”. Lynn loved just about anything with four legs but she and her husband, Stephen, had a special affection for German Short-haired Pointers and raised several together, most recently Lucy.

Crab cakes. With just three ingredients Lynn made crab magic. Despite Stephen’s frequent helpful suggestions for modifications, Lynn never wavered from her secret family recipe to the satisfaction of her guests.

Nearly a decade ago, Lynn combined her entrepreneurial spirit, business acumen and compassion for people to found Independent Home Care of Maryland. Under her leadership the company has flourished, providing services to clients who wish to remain in their home despite illness.

She was a member of the Cecil County Lions Club.
